OMEGA DriveTM

Magnetic threads provide a large gear ratio between slow prime-movers, e.g. wind turbines & wave energy converters (WECs) and electrical generators, to make the equipment compact.

Rotary Motion

The technology offers a reduction in permanent magnet content and a reduction of size and weight, which may be of interest at the top of the tower of floating wind turbines. Other potential applications include tidal turbines and marine propulsion, e.g. in pods.

Linear Motion

Many wave-energy converters (WECs) require a power-take-off (PTO) that converts linear to rotary motion, where a low linear velocity results in a high rotational velocity. In contrast with mechanical arrangements, the magnetic solution is virtually frictionless and can slip, if overloaded, without damage.
